About Robert Coltharp

My Picutre

My clients are smart, motivated, and compassionate people searching for strong, meaningful connections.

But they are just plain tired with being alone in the world. Life seems to be passing them by, and they don’t know what they are doing wrong or what they can do to turn things around. They’re so exhausted with not knowing when or if they will ever find lasting love. I can certainly relate to their struggles.

When I was twenty-five, I thought I had my life figured out.

At the time, I had established myself as a mechanical engineer and was in a committed relationship. Despite feeling bored and unsatisfied with my life, I assumed that I would eventually find happiness and fulfillment because I had what society told me I should want.

Then one day, I was unexpectedly laid off from my job, and my girlfriend broke up with me shortly thereafter.

Those shocking and devastating experiences made me realize that I needed to figure out myself, and what I wanted for my life.

I stopped trying to be who others wanted me to be and I started being my authentic self.

Eventually I started working with my therapist. Our work together helped me embrace my sexual identity, find my partner, and decide to become a professional counselor myself.

I wanted to help people feel supported and encouraged to be their genuine selves, just as my therapist did for me all of those years ago. Although honoring my sexual identity and shifting my career focus were initially overwhelming and intimidating experiences, they ultimately helped me grow and evolve into the person I am today.

My main goal with every one of my clients is to help them become the people that they were always meant to be.

I truly believe that professional counseling can help people suffer less, strengthen their self-perception, and assist in creating the types of friendships and romantic relationships that they have always wanted in their lives.

Every person deserves to succeed and thrive.

And I cannot wait to start working with you.

I am a PhD Candidate (fourth-year PhD student) for the Counseling Education department at the University of North Texas.

My primary research interests include neuro-informed counseling, relationship counseling, LGBTQ+ affirming therapy, and integrating modern day technologies into therapeutic practices.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) within the state of Texas, and a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

In 2020, I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Southern Methodist University. Before I became a professional mental health counselor, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University in 2012, and I achieved my Professional Engineering license from the state of Texas in 2016.

I have extensive counseling training in helping individuals overcome their feelings of self-doubt, building up their confidence, and teaching them how to establish healthy relationship dynamics.

I understand how hard things have been lately for you. I understand that you are feeling hopeless and doubting that it is possible to turn your life around.

But things can get better.
